One of the elements that deserves mentioning in regards to IBM is the way in which they handle their employee management practices. Since the early days of the company, they’ve always been of the mind that the only way to create a strong company was to have a strong and happy workforce. To help with this, they created sports teams for the company, offered family outings, and were the first corporation to offer group life insurance in 1934. They then added survivor benefits and paid vacations, which forced many other companies to revisit their own company practices. They announced a disability plan nearly two decades before the Civil Rights Act, and created an equal opportunity policy more than a decade before the act.
